the support still did not contact you? how many days has passed since you contacted them? it usually takes a while for them to respond.

Which brings up my questions: Can the apps be archived to discs or an external HDD and be restored by Impulse from them?

Yes... just change the folder path via the orb (top left)> Options> Advanced> Folder Options in Impulse to the desired location....

I have my Impulse backup files set to my Stardock folder on J:/ but now I also have other backups on an external drive and DVD disc. After my primary OS drive died recently (taking my storage partitions with it) I came to the conclusion it's better to keep more than one archive... like Jafo. I have a capped download limit and redownloading stuff wastes time.

Not exactly the kind of statement I'd expect from someone who registered 2 days ago.

There are many different schemes available for downloading purchased software. The vast majority I have dealt with charge a fee to provide you with what they call "Download Protection" which gives you access to your files after the initial download has occurred. Oddly enough the protection term is usually a year. Corel is one of the companies I know does this as well as the company that owns Powerdesk (V-Com), now Avanquest, Handango, SBSH. With these companies, if you don't purchase it OR if it expires you are S.O.L. Frankly, I can't think of a single company that allows me lifetime access to downloaded software once the version I purchased is retired.

Personally, I'm just grateful that there is an avenue to recover lost software beyond the subscription term.

Support is first come - first serve.......make sure to check any SPAM folder you may have for the Stardock email.

Support is first come - first serve

And don't keep re-sending emails.  As I understand it a new email will reset you in their order, kind of like hanging up  and re-calling a phone support line.
